<p> These enzymes are isomerases in the pathway of L-rhamnose catabolism, as found in <taxon tax_id="316">Pseudomonas stutzeri</taxon> and in a number of the Rhizobiales, and are distinct from the L-rhamnose isomerases of <taxon tax_id="562">Escherichia coli</taxon> (see <db_xref db="INTERPRO" dbkey="IPR009308"/>). They catalyze the isomerisation step in rhamnose catabolism. Genetic evidence in <taxon tax_id="386">Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii</taxon> suggests that unlike the situation in E. coli, phosphorylation occurs first, then isomerisation of the phosphorylated sugar occurs.</p> L-rhamnose catabolism isomerase
